Ed Moeller was one of the first outstanding two-sport athletes at the University of Oregon, playing both football and running track from 1929-1931.  Moeller was a high school standout in San Diego winning Coast League titles in shot and discus from 1925-26.

In Eugene, he played both fullback and quarterback on the football team alongside Bill Bowerman.  The 1929 Webfoots were 7-3 and tied for the Pacific Coast Conference title.  Coach John McEwan was replaced by Clarence Spears, but Oregon football would keep winning over Moellers last two seasons.

It was on the track, running for Bill Hayward, that Moeller found his greatness. In 1929, Moeller won the Pacific Coast Conference title in the discus, then finished second at the NCAA Championships. During a meet later in the year, Moeller set a new world record of 160 feet, 7.7 inches.  Moeller won the Northern Division again as a senior in 1931 and placed third at the NCAA meet.

Ed Moeller's athletic career eneded after his three years at Oregon.
