Martin Hawkins (February 20, 1888-October 27, 1959) was a dominant track and field competitor for the University of Oregon during the 1910s and an Olympic bronze medalist in Stockholm.

Born in Sweden and raised in Portland, he would be the Ducks top point-scorer all three years and also competed representing the Multnomah Athletic Club.

Hawkins was one of nine Americans to qualify for the Stockholm Games in the 110-meter hurdles.  He had tied the world record twice at 15.2 and was one of the favorites along with Fred Kelly, a freshman at USC.  Hawkins was faster in the first round; Kelly was quicker in the semis but the fastest of all was Missouri's John Nicholson.  The final was a nail-biter, Nicholson fell on the 8th hurdle opening the door for Kelly to win Gold and Hawkins the Bronze.

The former team captain attended law school at his alma mater and served in the Army in WW I.  He returned to Portland for a law career and became one of the youngest District Court judges in Multnomah County in 1920 and remained as one of the state’s most distinguished judges for many years.

Martin Hawkins was inducted into the University of Oregon Athletics Hall of Fame in 1997.
