Where's the Museum?

The OSHOFM Board of Directors recognized the importance of creating a permanent platform to advance the Hall of Fame’s mission: demonstrating how sports play a vital role in the fabric of Oregon’s communities. In 1990, they began exploring the idea of a dedicated museum to preserve and share Oregon’s rich sports legacy.

After seven years of careful planning and a successful fundraising effort that secured $1.2 million in private support, the Oregon Sports Hall of Fame and Museum proudly opened its state-of-the-art facility in 1997, quickly earning a reputation as one of the finest sports museums in the country.

Throughout its years of operation, the museum became a dynamic hub for both permanent and rotating exhibits that brought Oregon’s athletic history to life. Visitors experienced powerful displays like Oregon’s connection to the Olympic Games, captivating auto-racing showcases, and rich tributes to iconic local traditions such as the Civil War Game and the Trail Blazers.

In mid-2008, the museum closed due to space needs of the building’s landlord, and while its extensive collection was relocated to the Oregon Sports Offices in Beaverton, that location was also re-developed, leaving the museum without a permanent home.

Today, the Hall of Fame is actively pursuing new venue partners to help share our exhibits and preserve Oregon’s athletic legacy, continuing to champion the message that sports are not just games—they are a vital and enduring part of our social and historical narrative.
