(Mar. 25, 1914 – Jan. 10, 2002) George Varoff was a three-time national champion at Oregon, setting world pole vault records of 14-4 in 1937 and 14-7 5/8 in 1939. A three-time Olympic vaulter, he set a world mark of 14-6 ½ in 1936 – all in the days when vaulting was done with a bamboo pole. Varoff was a three-time Northern Division champion (1937-1939) and Pacific Coast champion in 1938.
This 1982 Oregon Sports Hall of Fame inductee was also inducted into the University of Oregon Athletics Hall of Fame in 1994.
