Most notably, Abrahamson was a member of the U.S. Olympic Handball Team, representing the nation at the 1972 Munich Olympic Games and captaining the team at the 1976 Montreal Olympic Games.
Born in 1947 and raised in McMinnville, Oregon, Abrahamson’s athletic journey began at McMinnville High School before he went on to play basketball at the University of Oregon. He served as the team captain during his senior year, showcasing his leadership and skill, which eventually led to his selection by the Phoenix Suns in the 1969 NBA Draft.
During his team handball tenure, Abrahamson played in the first Olympic Handball Tournament in Munich in 1972 and was a member of the U.S. national teams that participated in the Pan American Games, where he led the team to a gold medal in the 1972 and 1973 Championships.
